A report by trade association Renewable UK has made a case for reforming the planning system and financial support mechanisms to encourage more battery projects to co-locate with offshore wind.
RenewableUK has called on the UK government and devolved administrations to reform the planning system to allow green hydrogen projects to rapidly be built across the country.
“In my opinion, the addition of battery energy storage coupled with solar can get renewable penetration to the next level,” said Ioannis Grammatikakis, UK country manager at Power Factors.
Renewables developers must be co-locating with other technologies or turning to aggregators to offset the serious disruption caused by market price volatility.
